Integrating Early MTSS and Science of Reading (SOR) Initiatives to Build Language and Early Literacy Skills: Henry’s Story.

Within Early MTSS, a system-wide tiered service delivery model, early childhood educators are threading SOR curricular, instructional, environmental, and assessment practices so young children become proficient in language and early literacy skills.  We will introduce you to Henry and learn how his teacher, and her classroom team, identified and met his language and early literacy needs using a strengths-based, problem-solving process, with an emphasis on Tier 2/3 strategies.

Within Early MTSS, a system-wide tiered delivery model, early childhood educators are providing robust math instruction so our youngest learners achieve essential math Pre-K learning standards.  We’ll share strategies for curricular and instructional decision-making that lead to implementation of strong program- and class-wide Tier 1 practices.  We’ll also share methods for monitoring children’s progress with performance data within a strengths-based, decision-making process that leads to effective interventions matched to children’s needs.

Within Early MTSS, a system-wide tiered service delivery model, early childhood educators are implementing program-wide BSEL skill development practices, including class-wide Tier 1 and Tier 2 curricular, instructional, environmental, and behavioral strategies, and individualized Tier 3 support plans to develop children's BSEL competencies. We will introduce you to Sophie and learn how her teacher, and her classroom team, promoted development of Sophie's BSEL competencies using a strengths-based, problem-solving process, with an emphasis on Tier 2/3 strategies.
